Menopause Sucks!
Such strong words for what every woman will eventually go through in their lives. I wish there was a better word because it has a strong stigma. When I hear the word "menopause" I think of women with gray hair, wrinkles, body pain, problems "down there", low sex drive, depression and overall deterioration. At least that's what I used to come to mind when I was a young pup and could eat a gigantic piece of chocolate cake covered with chocolate ganache without gaining a single pound. Oh the good ole days. Now I gain 10 just thinking of that kind of cake. Cue the carrot and celery sticks!
But what I have learned entering this phase of my life is that I am not any of those things that I used to describe what my future self would become and I am determined to fight it every step of the way.
Part of the solution comes by the way of self-care. Let's face it. Some self-care activities used to be optional when I was younger and now I have just accepted the fact that they are required.
Take my monthly facial for example. When I was younger a facial was a luxury. I had no wrinkles and changing dry skin to worry about. Just slap on some moisturizer and I was out the door. Today the facial actually helps me win the battle on all of my new skin issues such as dry-ness, clogged pores, and fine lines and wrinkles. Now it's a standing appointment and that's just fine with me.
What about you? What kinds of self-care activities have you incorporated into your routine as a must do?
